Modern API architecture

We keep our technology stack clean and contemporary. Our RESTful API uses OpenAPI v3 standards, ensuring a familiar and predictable developer experience.

  • Authentication: We use OAuth 2.0 (Client Credentials grant type) to keep your connections secure.
  • Sample code: Jumpstart your build with our GitHub repositories, offering ready-to-use sample code in PHP, C#, and NodeJS.
  • Postman collections: Test our endpoints and map out your payment solutions quickly using our pre-built Postman collections.
  • Test cards: We provide a comprehensive suite of test cards to help you simulate successful payments, declines, and 3DS challenges in your development environment.

Integration methods

We offer two main ways to accept credit card payments, depending on how much control you need and how much compliance work your merchant wants to take on.

  • Fully hosted (3-party): This is the low-friction choice. When it is time to pay, you redirect the customer to a secure Paystation hosted page. This keeps your merchant’s PCI compliance scope low. It also includes built-in 3DS security (Verified by Visa and Mastercard SecureCode), which shifts the liability for fraudulent chargebacks to the card issuer.
  • Merchant hosted (2-party): Keep customers on your website for the entire checkout process. While this gives you total brand control, it means the merchant retains the fraud liability and holds a much higher responsibility for their own PCI DSS certification.

If you don’t need a custom build, we also offer supported modules for major shopping carts like WooCommerce and Shopify alongside software integrations for Xero, Gravity Forms, and KAMAR.

The onboarding process

Going live is as easy as one, two, three:

  1. Apply: Have your merchant fill out our online application to trigger your development account immediately.
  2. Provide a merchant ID: Your merchant needs to get a ‘Linked Gateway’ merchant id from their local New Zealand bank.
  3. Integrate and go: Run through our rigorous go-live checklist. We check things like unique session values and refund policy visibility to ensure everything is watertight before you take credit card payments.
