Secure payment processing for your small Kiwi business

Running a small business in Aotearoa means wearing a lot of hats, but figuring out how to get paid shouldn’t be the hardest part of your day. Whether you are running a local shop, an independent contracting service, or a boutique web store, Paystation provides straight up payment solutions designed to help you get your money securely and quickly.

As a Trade Me subsidiary, we provide a reliable payment gateway nz infrastructure built specifically for the local market. We give you the exact tools you need to accept credit card payments without the headache.

Low-friction online payments

If you run an eCommerce store, we integrate smoothly with familiar shopping carts like WooCommerce, Shopify, Open Cart, Xcart, and Zencart.

We highly recommend our fully hosted (3-party) setup for small businesses. When a customer is ready to make an online payment, we redirect them to a secure Paystation page to complete the checkout. This approach offers major benefits for a smaller operation:

  • It keeps your PCI compliance scope incredibly low, minimising your administrative burden.
  • Card data never touches your local servers, keeping your customers safe.
  • It includes built-in 3DS security (Verified by Visa and Mastercard SecureCode), which shifts the liability for fraudulent chargebacks over to the card issuer.

Get paid without a website

You do not need a complex eCommerce build to use our merchant services. If you run a service-based business or handle back-office admin, our manual tools make collecting money simple.

  • PayMe: Generate unique, secure payment URLs that you can email directly to your clients for instant digital invoice payment.
  • Manual card transactions (MOTO): Easily process a moto payment over the phone by entering your customer’s card details directly into our secure web portal.
  • Software integrations: Connect your payments seamlessly with back-office software like Xero so your invoices are automatically reconciled.

Straight up pricing for small operations

We know keeping overheads low is essential for small businesses. Our pricing is up-front, competitive, and entirely transparent, so you only pay for what you use. Plus, we do not lock you into fixed-term contracts.

You can find our pricing page here.

Secure your merchant facility

To use Paystation as your payment provider, you need to set up a merchant facility and get a ‘Linked Gateway’ Merchant ID from your local bank. This model allows you to negotiate your volume-based transaction fees directly with your bank, keeping your overall costs lower.

We support all major New Zealand banks, including ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Kiwibank, and Westpac. We work with your bank to ensure your money is settled daily. If you bank with ASB, they even offer same-day settlement seven days a week.

Unmatched security

When it comes to your customers’ financial data, we do not mess around. We are a Level 1 PCI DSS Service Provider, meeting the absolute highest global standards for payment security. We protect your business with robust fraud mitigation tools, including CVV/CSC reporting and IP/BIN blocking, to keep your operation safe.

Three simple steps to go live

Getting your small business set up to take payments is as easy as one, two, three:

  1. Apply: Fill out an online application to trigger your development account immediately.
  2. Provide your Merchant ID: Get your ‘Linked Gateway’ Merchant ID from your local bank.
  3. Integrate and go: Run through our rigorous go-live checklist, test your setup, and start taking secure payments.
